The Domain Naming Convention for Internet User Applications
نویسندگان
چکیده
For many years, the naming convention "@" has served the ARPANET user community for its mail system, and the substring "" has been used for other applications such as file transfer (FTP) and terminal access (Telnet). With the advent of network interconnection, this naming convention needs to be generalized to accommodate internetworking. A decision has recently been reached to replace the simple name field, "", by a composite name field, "" [2]. This note is an attempt to clarify this generalized naming convention, the Internet Naming Convention, and to explore the implications of its adoption for Internet name service and user applications.

An Interface-Based Naming System for Ubiquitous Internet Applications
In the future, huge amounts of embedded and invisible devices, as well as software components, will be connected to the Internet, and these “functional objects” are expected to play an important role in providing convenience services to users. In such a “ubiquitous Internet,” users will be able to utilize various applications through functional objects anytime and anywhere. Since the ubiquitous...

Passenger information aims at improving the user-friendliness of public transport systems while influencing passenger route choices to satisfy transit user’s travel requirements. The integration of transit information from multiple agencies is a major challenge in implementation of multi-modal passenger information systems. The problem of information sharing is further compounded by the multi-l...
متن کاملThe Junction Protocol for Ad Hoc Peer-to-Peer Mobile Applications
Junction is an application-level communication protocol and library designed for writing mobile applications for ad hoc groups without centralized application servers. We propose that applications be built using a generic switchboard service for communication. Each dynamic instance can designate a unique switchboard, hosted by a peer or by a third-party, for the session. Our convention of namin...
متن کاملDomain Name System Security and Privacy: Old Problems and New Challenges
The domain name system (DNS) is an important protocol in today’s Internet operation, and is the standard naming convention between domain names, names that are easy to read, understand, and remember by humans, to IP address of Internet resources. The wealth of research activities on DNS in general and security and privacy in particular suggest that all problems in this domain are solved. Realit...
